My name is Ryan Sanft, I live in southern California but grew up under the shadows of the mighty Wasatch mountain range. I lived across the street from Timpview Highschool growing up and started to run 18 months ago after I realized I was 5'7, 185 pounds and feeling sluggish out on the soccer field. Running has been therapeutic and energizing. In my opinion there is no better place in the world to run than the back trails of the Wasatch range. I love to run and run for me--enjoying the serenity of being off the beaten path alone with nature. I always thought "runner's high" was a myth. I now cherish those rare moments when one can say, "It just doesn't get any better than this." I'm now at 148 lbs and feel great. I hope to keep running as long as I can.

Finally a work out! The air is still bad and somewhat thick but I needed to get some of the anxiety out of my legs. 2 warm up miles, tempo miles 3-6 at 7:10 pace and then 2 more cool down miles at 8:40.
I attempted to run and the air kicked my butt. My asthma acted up. The smoke is nearly gone but there is still something in the air. I went home and took my asthma meds. Now I'm getting anxious and my legs are starting to scream at me that they want to run.
No running, air is still bad. I would hop on the tread mill but the air inside is bad too. I have the air purifier cranked up at the house. Hopefully I will be back to running soon. The fires are getting contained and the winds have died down.
Schools shut down for the rest of the week. There are now 23 fires burning. The closest is about 13 miles away but yet the air is thick black. Even inside the hospital where I work the air is bad. All my clothes smell like I just was at a Boy Scout camp out.
Air quality very bad, winds very high--ashes floating down. The power went out for 4 hours yesterday due to Santa Anna winds blowing the transformer. Fires in the the mountains are getting pretty bad.
